Polishing the floors – it still works!!
Polishing the floors – it still works!!

Perhaps its just me, but going through the rooms at the CWA hall invokes a tender nostalgia.  There is so much history in the nearly 90 years of CWA presence in Canowindra, a town that has had such a unique community feel for generations.  In December 1965, receipt books show that the hall was rented by a number of groups.  The Junior Tennis Club used it for a price of 12d 6p, and the Red Cross for 10d.  Miss Flo Nash rented it for a Rotary Dinner at a cost of £7, and Mrs Stubbs for an Apex dinner, £3 13d 7p.  A CWA street stall raised £32 6d 8p on the 10th of December—I wonder if they also did cake stalls and wood raffles outside the IGA?

If you have stories of nostalgic significance from times past with CWA activities in Canowindra, please can you share them with us. Post your story to webmaster@canowindra.org, or send to Canowindra CWA, PO Box 118 Canowindra, NSW 2804.
