International Day on 22 August was fantastic! A wonderful feast was produced by our members, and we were very privileged to have a fantastic display of photos and memorabilia from Morocco, courtesy of a couple of local people who have traveled there in the past.
We also had the pleasure of hosting half a dozen visitors from Sydney. A group of year 10 students from Key College in Redfern, were visiting Canowindra on a working field trip—they were helping with the Habitat House project over a few days. There were invited to, and came along to, our Moroccan presentation and meal, in the process sharing some of their amazing stories of survival and determination to move ahead in life. So moved were we by their presence and stories that we decided at the meeting that followed, to be deliberate about keeping up this friendship that has begun, by accommodating them for future working field trips to our region.
Further information about their background and organisation sending them can be found at http://www.youthoffthestreets.com.au.
What a wonderful example of community at work in our town.
